Sydney joined Codman Academy in 2007 as the 9th grade Humanities Teacher. Prior to joining Codman, she served as a Teaching Fellow at Citizen Schools’ 8th Grade Academy in Codman Square and the Coordinator of Boston Public Library’s Homework Assistance Program, where she recruited, trained, and supervised Boston high school students to tutor K-8 students in every library branch across the city. In 2015, Sydney earned her National Board Certification in the field of English Learning Arts (adolescence and young adulthood), the highest professional certification available in education. Sydney is a certified self-defense instructor, and she introduced the R.A.D. systems of self-defense to Codman Academy students. Sydney also received a Fund for Teachers fellowship to travel to South Africa and study the history and legacy of apartheid, and she was selected to help write EL’s Common Core-aligned 8th grade ELA curricular modules. Sydney earned her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College, where she concentrated in Writing and Women’s History and her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University.
