Social & Emotional Learning

We firmly believe in the importance of cultivating the socio-emotional development of our students. On our staff, we employ a full-time School Social Worker, a Social-Emotional Learning Coordinator, a Dean of Culture for each division, and a full-time nurse. Student Support Teams at the Lower, Middle and Upper School, comprised of the school Social Worker, Deans of Culture, Principals and specialists, meet bi-weekly to discuss students in need of more individualized interventions. School Culture Teams at both the Lower/Middle School and the Upper School strategize around whole-school approaches and interventions with feedback from staff, families, and students. Our partnership with Wediko Children’s Services provides individual and group counseling services to students in need.

Our multi-tiered approach includes: a school-wide use of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), explicit social-skills teaching, new student intakes, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, parent outreach, and conflict mediation.

As an EL Education school, we also have Crew across all grade levels. Crew is described as “a place where character education, adventure, and team building are intentional, assuring success for all students. It’s a structure that fosters a sense of belonging within students, and a place where they can be their best selves while lifting up their peers to achieve more than they think possible.” In the Lower School, students meet with their whole class as a Crew. In the Middle and Upper School, Crews are mixed-gender, multi-age groups.
